"Lotte Latham is our most linguistically witty SWer writer. Maternal Potential is
pregnant with mourning, wisdom and tart humor, pondering motherhood in a world
where love is commodified yet persists.” Jack Skelley, (The Complete Fear of Kathy
Acker)
“Clever and funny and warm and truthful, Maternal Potential reminds us that 'mother'
is a verb - an act of care rather than a fixed identity. It is an exuberant love letter to
othermothers everywhere, and I think you should read it.” Prof. Helen Hester
(Post-Work, What It Is, Why It Matters and How We Get There)
"Maternal Potential is a cunt-shaped minefield. It makes fetal tissue into lyric and
gags god with a cervix. Latham writes like she’s sawing off the leg the patriarchy
gnawed through. It’s post-abortion punk scripture, contra-madonna gospel for the
bastards, sluts, and mothers-of-nil. I read it and bled.” P. Eldridge (Curator and
Founding Editor of SISSY ANARCHY)
“This book fucked my guts out.” Jonathan Blake Fostar (Editor-in-chief of Dream Boy
Book Club)
10% of profits from Maternal Potential will be donated to S.W.A.R.M.
Maternal Potential follows the protagonist, a thirty-something-year old s*x worker, who begins by contemplating motherhood, before herself brushing with it. A combination of auto-fiction and social-commentary, this raw experimental prose will make you squirm.
Lotte Latham is a writer, pornographer and activist with an untidy mind. Her creative practice centres around bodily autonomy and identifies the sexual as inherently political. Lotte is a member of grass roots organisation S.W.A.R.M. (The Sex Worker Advocacy and Resistance Movement), a sex worker-led collective who raise awareness about sex worker’s rights and promote the decriminalisation of sex work globally.
